Pre-Investment Visa (D12)

Pre-Investment Visa (D12) is intended for foreign entrepreneurs and investors wishing to explore business opportunities in Indonesia before the official formation of a company.

The D12 visa is a multiple-entry visa and lasts 1 or 2 years, and can extend stay by up to 180 days per visit (although one extension is possible, and subject to the approval of the immigration authorities and their conditions).

It is the best visa in case you intend to establish a PT PMA (a company owned by foreign investors) and require time on the ground for market research.

What You Can Do With This Visa

The Pre-Investment Visa (D12) will permit you to:

  • In and out of Indonesia several times within the visa validity.
  • Make site visits and field surveys.
  • Conduct a feasibility study and market research.
  • Visit partners and suppliers, attend meetings.
  • Make factory, office, or production plant inspections.
  • Finalize and make business contracts.
  • Business goods to buy and review.
  • Make visits to friends or relatives and go about tourism activities.

This visa will allow serious investors a leeway before committing themselves in the long term.

What You Cannot Do

The D12 visa does not allow you to:

  • Work in Indonesia on a paid basis.
  • Get a salary through an entity in Indonesia.
  • Exceed your authorized period of stay.

In case you intend to work actively in Indonesia, you will have to get another permit (a work KITAS).
